Life on May

Wake up and smell a cup of coffee, read the morning newspaper..you gotta be kidding huh..

Nope, that's not such a life for me lately. As student i am having experience of stay awake a night or two, become a Barr-Smith buddy (if you don't know who he is just check my uni's website), condemn my BC's group mates for their less enthusiasm, read several books (some make me want to puke) and give the best hats off to my colleagues for their inspiration.

But, hey ... I love myself being a student once more, it's my process of learning. Stop whining and complaining, I'm ready to roll..

Mastodon Rocks !!!!

Mastodon? Who the hell are they? It's sumthin' that came up into mind when i read a review in a metal magz several months ago. So, my curious (haha is there any?) is ended and my thirst of a new - but having a sort of vintage classic metal riffs and beats - is quenched with Mastodon's Blood Mountain (2006), their third album. While my ears were still bombarded with a great groovy prog beat and coarse lyrics blend of Tool, I listened to Mastodon for the very first time.

'The Wolf is Loose' is the first song that makes me attracted to Mastodon. It begins with a short exaggerating drums beat intro by Bran Dailor, followed by guitar and bass kick in with the thrash metal tempo, suitable for any old-school adorer. 'The Wolf..' is a typical metal song that reminds you to Megadeth's 'FFF', Metallica's 'Metal Milita', Slayer's 'Raining Blood' and even Overkill's 'Infectious' (if you have listened any). A stage song it is.

'Colony of Birchmen' is another crucial number from Blood Mountain. Awarded as the metal song of the year 2006 by Metal Hammer, 'Colony..' gives a diferrent perspectives, as it's combined a hard speed beat with a little part of progressive-rock in the encore. 'Sleeping Giant' is really an attractive progressive track that can be compared with the darkness side of Reign in Blood's Slayer. I love its opening and the solo is also awesome.

Lyrics? they're good at it. eg. the title: Colony of Birchmen is a homage of the Genesis' 'The Colony of Slippermen' from The Lamb Lies on Broadway, Bran's fave album, which is coincidently, one of my fave bands.

Overall, Mastodon is almost the whole things I have been searching from a metal band. As I might expected, they have presented the need and soul of heavy metal in the millenium, completely. Don't miss their next show if they're coming to your town!!!
